Choctawhatchee District's 2016 Scout O Rama was a HUGE success!!!

Saturday April 9, 2016 the scouts of the Choctawhatchee District had their annual Scout O Rama. We had over 20 units at the Fort Walton Beach Landing along with many community organizations.

The Scouts got to show off many skills and how they love to have FUN!!!

If you missed Scout O Rama, don't worry we will be back in 2017!!!

NRA CERTIFIED FIREARMS INSTUCTOR COURSES

NRA CERTIFIED RIFLE & SHOTGUN INSTRUCTOR &

RANGE SAFETY OFFICER COUSE

NRA CERTIFIED PISTOL INSTRUCTOR COURSE, PHASE II

NRA CERTIFIED YOUTH MUZZLELOADING RIFLE INSTRUCTOR COURSE

 

NRA Certified Rifle & Shotgun Instructor and Range Safety Officer (RSO) Course is being offered on Saturday and Sunday, December 3 & 4, 2016.  This is a 2-day course and is open to registered Scout & Venture Leaders and Youth who wish to support shooting sports activities at the Unit, District and Council level.  Completion of the course also allows registered Scout & Venture Leaders and Merit Badge Counselors to teach the Rifle and Shotgun merit Badges.

 

NRA Certified Range Safety Officer Course.  Current NRA Instructors that wish to add the BSA required RSO certification to their credentials may attend only the RSO portion of the course.

 

(NEW) NRA Certified Pistol Instructor Course, Phase II is being offered on January 21, 2017.  This is a 1-day course and is open to registered Scout & Venture Leaders who wish to add pistol shooting to their NRA instructor credentials and support Venture shooting sports activities at the Crew, District and Councillevel.  The Phase I course is taken online in advance.  A future change to the Boy Scout program will add pistol shooting to the Boy Scouts Shooting Sports program.

 

(NEW) NRA Certified Youth Muzzleloading (ML) Rifle Instructor Course is being offered on January 22, 2017.  This is a 1-day course and is open to registered Scout & Venture Leaders that wish to support ML Rifle shooting sports activities at the Unit, District and Council level.

​A recent change in NRA Instructor training eliminated the NRA ML Rifle Course and replaced it with the ML course which required all ML Instructors to be qualified to teach ML Rifle, Shotgun & Pistol.  However, NRA recently announced a newYouth ML Rifle Instructor Course. This new instructor course is only for registered Scout & Venture Leaders to be certified instructors in ML rifle.  As a result, Scout Leaders can take this reduced content/reduced fee course that will permit them to add ML rifle to their credentials and participate in Unit, District and Council ML shooting sports activities.  Current ML and ML Rifle Instructors do not need to take this course.

 

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:  Adult attendees must be registered Scout Leaders or Merit Badge Counselors, 21 or older.  BSA registered youth attendees age 14 and above may register for the Rifle, Shotgun & RSO course and become Apprentice or Assistant Instructors.  NRA membership is not required.  Experience with course appropriate firearm is required.  All courses will be presented in Henson Hall at the Spanish Trail Scout Reservation in DeFuniak Springs, FL. 

 

FURTHER INFORMATION.  Upon completion of the above courses and in accordance with Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Publication “Guide to Safe Scouting”, number 34416A, NRA Instructors and RSOs will be able to teach and supervise Boy Scout and Venture rifle, shotgun & Muzzleloading rifle shooting, and Venture pistol shooting.  Instructors may also register as Rifle Shooting and Shotgun Shooting Merit Badge Counselors in accordance with BSA Merit Badge books number 35942 & 35948.  Additionally, NRA instructors can present NRA Basic Rifle,Shotgun and Pistol courses.  They may also serve as NRA RSOs on any Boy Scout range or any private or public ranges that require their use.
